She believes dentistry is equal parts science, art, and really good listening.
Dr. Anna Grinberg Ahani — Dr. Anna to her patients — was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, came to the United States at age 12, grew up in Maryland and Northern Virginia, studied biology at the University of Pittsburgh, earned her dental degree from Pitt School of Dental Medicine, completed her General Practice Residency at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, and finished a one-year implant fellowship back in Pittsburgh. She has covered a lot of ground, in more ways than one.
Her approach to dentistry is built on connection. "I find purpose in my professional and personal life through connections with people," she says. "The most important aspect of my job is being able to connect, communicate, and create a friendly and stress-free environment." She's volunteered at Children's Hospital Pittsburgh, participated in the Give Kids a Smile program, and provided free dental care to veterans through a mobile dental service.
She is fluent in English and Russian, in the process of learning Farsi, and welcomes patients from all backgrounds with the same warmth she brings to every aspect of her work.
Now settled in San Diego with her husband — her best friend, she'll tell you — she bakes with her son and daughter, loves to travel, and takes full advantage of the San Diego outdoor lifestyle year-round. She never needs an excuse to try a new recipe.
