Dr. Scott Curtice
He spent 30 years as a Navy orthodontist — tours in Hawaii, Italy, Spain, and Japan. Now he's home in San Diego, and country music plays when he's in.
He surfed Mission Bay, joined the Navy, and became an orthodontist. In that order.
Dr. Scott Curtice grew up in San Diego — Mission Bay High School, long hair, skateboard. After earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Washington and his dental degree at Oregon Health Sciences University, he joined the U.S. Navy as a general dentist. His most important early tour was in Oakland, CA, where he met his wife — who was also serving in the Navy Nurse Corps. Military life has good matchmaking instincts.
Dr. Curtice became the first Naval Dental Officer ever selected to attend the Air Force's Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program (TORP) at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. From there he spent the rest of his 30-year active duty career as an orthodontist, with overseas tours in Hawaii, Italy, Spain, and Japan. He retired from active duty in June 2022.
He actually joined Coastal Kids in 2018 while still on active duty, coming in on his days off. That tells you everything about his commitment. He and Dr. Buzz met nearly 15 years ago while stationed together in Yokosuka, Japan. They built a team approach that became one of the most successful models in the practice.
Dr. Curtice and his wife live in San Diego with their two husky fur-babies. He loves a cold San Diego IPA, roots hard for the Padres, and is a fixture at country music festivals — cowboy hat, cut-offs, and boots included. If you hear country playing in the office, it's a Dr. Curtice clinic day.
The first Naval officer in a program designed for the Air Force. That tracks.
Military precision. San Diego warmth. Perfect smiles.
"Dr. Curtice is so calm and methodical. My daughter's treatment has been exactly what he said it would be, on the exact timeline he described. We trust him completely."
"We came for braces for my son and stayed because of the whole team. Dr. Curtice is warm and funny and makes the whole process feel easy. Great experience for our whole family."
"I appreciate how thorough Dr. Curtice is at every visit. He always takes time to explain where we are in treatment and what's next. My teenager actually understands what's happening. Big win."
