In Network at All 5 Offices

If your family has the TRICARE Dental Program (TDP), run by United Concordia, your child can see our board-certified pediatric dentists and orthodontists at any of our offices: Carmel Valley, Eastlake (Chula Vista), Santee, San Diego (Kearny Mesa) and South Bay. Same doctors, same appointments, same care as every family we see. At our Santee office, Dr. Jordan Buzzell is a Navy veteran himself.

Not sure what your plan covers?

Call the office nearest you. We'll check your child's TDP benefits and explain any cost share before treatment.

TRICARE Medical Is Not Dental

TRICARE Prime and TRICARE Select are medical plans. They don't cover routine dental care for kids. Checkups and cleanings come from the separate TRICARE Dental Program, which eligible military families enroll in through United Concordia. Not sure if your child is enrolled? Ask us and we'll help you find out.

What the TRICARE Dental Program Covers for Kids

  • Checkups, exams and cleanings — usually covered in full in network
  • X-rays, fluoride and sealants to prevent cavities
  • Fillings and other treatment, with a cost share that can depend on your sponsor's pay grade
  • Orthodontic benefits for children, up to a lifetime maximum

Plans differ, so we confirm your child's coverage and tell you about any cost before the work, never after.

Moving to San Diego? We'll Pick Up Where You Left Off

PCS moves are hard on routines. When you book, we can request your child's X-rays and records from their last dentist. If your child is in braces, tell us when you call and our orthodontists will review the case and plan the next step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept TRICARE for kids' dental care?

Yes. Coastal Kids is in network with the TRICARE Dental Program (TDP), run by United Concordia, at all five of our San Diego offices: Carmel Valley, Eastlake (Chula Vista), Santee, San Diego (Kearny Mesa) and South Bay. Your child sees the same board-certified pediatric dentists and orthodontists as every other family.

Does TRICARE Prime cover my child's dental visits?

No. TRICARE Prime and TRICARE Select are medical plans and don't cover routine dental care for children. Dental care comes from the separate TRICARE Dental Program, which eligible military families enroll in through United Concordia.

What will I pay with the TRICARE Dental Program?

It depends on your plan and your sponsor's pay grade. Checkups and cleanings are usually covered in full when you see an in-network dentist. Other care, like fillings, has a cost share. We check your child's benefits and tell you about any cost before treatment, never after.

Can you take over my child's care after a PCS move?

Yes. When you book, we can request your child's X-rays and records from their last dentist so care picks up where it left off. If your child is in braces, tell us when you call and our orthodontists will review the case and plan the next step.

Do you accept Medi-Cal and other plans too?

Yes. We also accept Medi-Cal dental (Denti-Cal / Smile California) at every office, along with most PPO plans. See our insurance page for the full list.
